Respected fibroid doctors John Fischer, MD and Suzanne Slonim, MD were named as Texas Super Doctors®. The honor is chosen by area doctors and recognized physicians by specialty. This is the 21st year this annual award has been bestowed on area doctors.

-- TEXAS, USA (January 2025): Fibroid Institute Texas announces that respected physicians and fibroid doctors John Fischer, MD and Suzanne Slonim. MD were selected as Texas Super Doctors®. In its 21st year of naming noteworthy doctors in Texas Monthly, Super Doctors recognizes physicians honored by their peers for professional development. Doctors across the state vote for colleagues they trust for their medical care. Candidates are independently evaluated by the research staff, a peer review by practice area based on professional achievements, leadership, and contributions, and a check for good standing and disciplinary history.

Drs. Fischer and Slonim were listed in the December 2024 issue of Texas Monthly. All honorees can also be found at www.superdoctors.com. Selected doctors can be searched by name, medical specialty, and location.

Fibroid Institute Texas in the Dallas and Houston areas treats fibroids with compassionate, patient-centered care and offers non-surgical fibroid treatment with uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). By performing UFE in-office, Dr. Fischer and Dr. Slonim fulfill their passion for helping women live fibroid-free without major surgery or hospitalization.

“It is an incredible honor to be chosen for the Texas Super Doctors list. This is bestowed upon us by our peers, making the opportunity much more humbling,” Dr. Fischer said. “We have a tremendous amount of respect for our fellow Texas physicians, and we will work every day to exceed the expectations placed on us.”

Dr. Slonim agreed, adding, “Our goal has always been to be patient-centric and do all we can to promote awareness of fibroid education and treatment options. When a woman comes to us, she shows how much faith she has in us to help her live pain-free again. Getting recognized by our colleagues and partnering physicians for achieving quality outcomes is just icing on the cake.”

About Fibroid Institute’s Role in Fibroid Treatment

Research shows that 171 million women worldwide are affected by fibroids. Yet, a lack of open discussion and widespread misinformation about non-surgical fibroid treatment options leaves many women unprepared for their journey. Many are unaware they have fibroids, lack access to proper information or care, and hesitate to report or normalize their symptoms as simply part of being a woman. Dr. John Fischer and Dr. Suzanne Slonim, both fibroid doctors who are board-certified interventional radiologists skilled in minimally invasive X-ray-guided procedures, are passionately committed to raising awareness about this important issue.

Several years ago, Dr. Slonim was at the forefront of legislation that made Texas one of 10 states to recognize July as Uterine Fibroid Awareness Month. Since then, both fibroid doctors have pushed for local county and city governments to officially recognize Fibroid Awareness Month with proclamations and resolutions. Dr. Slonim and Dr. Fischer have also completed over 40,000 interventional radiology cases throughout their decorated careers. That experience and commitment have helped thousands of women become fibroid-free without major surgery. As Dr. Fischer states, “There are other practices that treat fibroids, but very few can say they are exclusively dedicated to treating fibroids without resorting to surgery. We take pride in that fact.”

“We are honored to be included among such great physicians,” Dr. Slonim said. “Congratulations to everybody.”

About Uterine Fibroids and UFE

Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous growths in the uterus that affect 70-80% of all women, usually between ages 30 and 50. While not life-threatening, they can cause significant symptoms like severe pelvic pain, heavy periods, bloating, frequent urination, back pain, and reproductive issues such as infertility or miscarriage.

Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment performed using image-guided interventional radiology. Experienced fibroid doctors insert a small catheter through the wrist which delivers microscopic particles to block blood flow to the fibroids, causing them to shrink and die. UFE offers a safe and effective alternative to hysterectomy (uterus removal) or myomectomy (surgical fibroid removal). Covered by most insurance plans, the procedure has a shorter recovery time than traditional surgery and boasts a success rate of over 90%.

Although UFE was once less commonly recommended due to concerns about pain, since the Fibroid Institute's launch in 2016, a growing number of medical professionals have chosen to send patients to the Fibroid Institute. The fibroid practice’s proprietary unique approach in fibroid treatment greatly reduces discomfort during recovery, making it a preferred option for many healthcare professionals.

About Fibroid Institute

Medical Director Dr. Suzanne Slonim founded Fibroid Institute in 2016 out of concern for the high incidence of surgeries to treat uterine fibroids. Dr. Fischer joined Fibroid Institute in September 2022 and has brought over two decades of experience as one of the top renowned fibroid doctors. Meanwhile, the Fibroid Institute and its entire staff of professionals are dedicated to expanding access to a minimally invasive procedure called uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) and educating women about fibroid treatment options.

“Nothing is more rewarding than helping women through a difficult medical situation,” Dr. Slonim added. The concierge model at Fibroid Institute means patients get personalized and complete care from the initial consultation through post-procedure follow-ups. UFE patients can access their fibroid doctor’s mobile number to call or text with questions and concerns.

Fibroid Institute is dedicated to prioritizing patient care and helping reduce healthcare costs associated with fibroid treatment. Uterine Fibroids Embolization (UFE) is an outpatient procedure that eliminates the need for a hospital stay, making it more cost effective than traditional surgeries like hysterectomy. With a growing national demand for non-surgical fibroid treatments, patients from across the country visit the Institute’s Houston and Dallas fibroid clinics. Thousands of women have trusted the Fibroid Institute team for safe and effective non-surgical care.
